In the mechanisms of movable louvers, the selection of components for constructing the mechanism affects the price and lifespan of the mechanism. The most important factors are outlined below:
1. Material selection based on customer expectations
2. Does the customer prefer a smart system, meaning they want automation, or not? Does the customer insist only on the louver’s performance, or do they also consider quality and other factors? Does the customer take into account the high durability, services, warranty, and quality along with other aspects or not?
Factors that increase the price in smart systems include light and heat regulation based on weather conditions and ambient temperature. The operator can remotely or through sensors installed in the system, adjust the louvers to the desired direction by detecting wind direction, opposing rotation, preventing intense light, or countering rain. In warm weather, the louvers can rotate to allow fresh air to create a breeze, and when the window is open, direct outside air into the room or expel it outwards, creating a suction effect. This suction force can be enhanced with an internal blower to rapidly direct air outside. All these factors need to be calculated, and their calculations entail additional costs that must be computed separately. We can provide any of these calculations as per the customer’s requirement.
2. Price increase based on the type of alloy. The alloys we use include aluminum and cast iron. For instance, aluminum parts cost around 450,000 IRR (approximately $75) each, whereas cast iron parts cost around 180,000 IRR (approximately $3) each. If we manufacture the molds ourselves, these costs would be slightly lower, but the current market prices are as mentioned. Using aluminum is more expensive but offers higher durability and is corrosion-resistant, whereas cast iron has higher strength but is susceptible to corrosion. The mentioned prices are for self-casting. If we purchase the molds from the market, each aluminum mold costs $125 (approximately 750,000 IRR) and cast iron parts in the market cost 350,000 IRR (approximately $6) each. These need to be procured from the market, but if we do the casting ourselves, the previous costs apply.
Another factor affecting the price is the selection and purchase of bearings and ball bearings. Each Chinese bearing or ball bearing costs around 250,000 IRR (approximately $4), while each Japanese bearing costs $10. This is an example. Everything we purchase has a similar price difference, and we will inquire based on the customer’s expectations.
For the motor, the same price difference applies. A gearbox motor costs 21 million IRR (approximately $350), a Japanese one costs $1133, and a top-quality Chinese one costs $250. If we choose a German motor, the costs will be higher than these amounts.
We use bolts and nuts made of ST37 or stainless steel. Iron nuts have the lowest tensile and environmental resistance. Steel bolts and nuts have higher tensile strength compared to iron and stainless steel, but they are more vulnerable to water and environmental corrosion. However, stainless steel bolts and nuts have lower tensile strength than steel but higher environmental resistance. This difference results in a 1:4 to 4:8 price ratio compared to each other. For example, some grades of stainless steel, such as 304 and 316, are highly corrosion-resistant. Alloy steels, like stainless steel, contain other metallic elements such as nickel, chromium, vanadium, etc., which enhance the mechanical properties of the system.
Considering that the environment, system application, mechanism performance, and weather conditions influence the choice of alloy for parts, especially bolts and nuts, and that the stress load on bolts and nuts significantly affects their lifespan and durability, the selection of bolts is very important.
Alloy of bolts:
1. Stainless steel is suitable for corrosive environments.
2. Steel is suitable for workshop and construction environments and non-corrosive urban areas.
3. Iron is suitable for indoor industrial construction, away from alkaline environments, moisture, etc.
For the project calculations, the mechanism is designed based on the weight and stress exerted on the system, and the alloy and bolt selection for the mechanism to withstand relatively humid weather conditions is considered to be the second type, steel.
The prices initially discussed in the meeting were based on the use of optimal materials and excellent motors, considering all aspects including bolts and other materials, which made the price seem high. However, a reasonable and moderate price has now been considered. High-quality materials like stainless steel and compressed aluminum have not been used in this system, which has reduced the price. Additionally, some tasks that were previously outsourced are now done in-house, further reducing the cost.
This explanation is provided to clarify how we calculated the prices and managed to lower them. Our optimized proposal is that for your 2000 square meters of louver facade, if you use louver 10 with the current price, you can cover each square meter effectively. We have calculated it so that when they are fully closed, they block all sunlight with a very narrow gap of 1 centimeter, and when closed, only 0.5 centimeters of sunlight penetrates. They have a 10-centimeter overlap to completely block sunlight, wind, or any other issues. However, in some projects, to reduce costs, we reduce the number of louvers per square meter, from 9 to 7. This increases the gap from 1 centimeter to, for instance, 4 centimeters, reducing the price, allowing some sunlight to create a striped shadow effect that adds a unique aesthetic to the space. A room with alternating dark and light stripes has a distinct beauty.
We quoted you approximately 1,663,000 dollars. If we take the larger size louvers, which would be 8000 meters of louver size 20, it would be about 997,000 dollars, roughly one million dollars. One million dollars covers all 2000 square meters with size 22 louvers. This is our proposal, and the most suitable and best suggestion is to use size 22 louvers. The number of mechanisms is reduced, making it very cost-effective per square meter.
Furthermore, since the goods are not ready, we cannot easily get quotes from transport companies regarding the cost of transporting the goods. The goods need to be ready, their density determined, and their weight and volume specified, as well as the type of container needed for transport. If it can be done by land, it will probably be cheaper, and other transportation costs must be considered. If we calculate now, it should be considered as an overhead factor, which will increase our price and may seem expensive to you. But we have eliminated those, and once the goods are ready and made, prices will be obtained from several carriers by both us and you. The carrier with the most suitable price, insurance, and safety conditions, capable of delivering our product safely and securely, will be negotiated with, and the product will be shipped to its destination, with the cost being shared by us and you. We do the same in our projects here. We write in our invoice that the transportation cost is borne by the customer. When we send the goods to the project, the customer calculates the shipping cost.
Also, the legal department of Valid Aluminum is with you. If you wish to buy other items related to louvers or brackets from any other Iranian factory besides us…
For example, one of our customers wanted to buy ingots from us. Since we are a profile production factory and not an ingot producer, we introduced them to a very large ingot-producing factory in Iran. We monitored the process from a distance, as the customer was ours, to ensure they were treated correctly. In the end, what happened was that the customer wanted A8 ingots, but the factory sent a mix of A8 and A7, which was incorrect. The customer said that according to the contract and our discussions, they wanted A8, but the delivered product was not what was invoiced initially. Given the contractual agreements and commitments, the factory was forced to replace the goods and compensate for the error. Since the mistake was identified at the border, it was clear the delivered goods were not as promised. Pay attention to such points in your dealings here, and always proceed with caution. Ensure sufficient guarantees and consult with reliable advisors. We’ve faced several instances where the product quality was unsatisfactory for the customer. In such cases, the factory had to take back the goods, but without a professional team handling the contract, customers were often forced to accept products that didn’t meet their quality standards. This is why we suggest you use our experience and capabilities.
Regarding the amount we discussed in the meeting, it was based on a German motor. Considering the long distance, we opted for a German motor with high-quality fittings to minimize the need for repairs over a long period. All materials were considered premium. The German motor comes with a five-year replacement warranty. Any problem with the motor will result in a replacement, not a repair. The current motor we have priced to be cost-effective is a Turkish motor with a two-year warranty, provided by the factory. This warranty is not from us but from the motor manufacturer, and we pass it on to you. However, for the German motor, the replacement warranty provided by the German factory is 100%, whether given by the factory or us.
Secondly, regarding the fittings, we had sourced premium-quality fittings for the price we discussed in the meeting, which was almost double the current price. Now, we have optimized the costs, and the fittings are still of high quality but at a reduced price, considering we produce some parts ourselves using high-quality alloys. We can offer a two to three-year unconditional warranty on the system’s performance since the motor has a five-year warranty, the fittings are excellent, and the louvers themselves are durable. The louvers will work perfectly, and over time, the system will have minimal issues, leading to lower repair costs in the long run.
For the premium system we discussed, we can offer excellent after-sales service for 10 to 12 years. Even for the optimized system with the current lower price, we still provide 10 to 12 years of after-sales service. However, we can’t promise minimal repairs for the optimized system because the components are good but not premium. There will be repair costs for you when an issue arises, and we come to fix it. This is the difference between the optimized system and the premium system we discussed during our in-person meeting. Both systems will meet your needs, but there is a difference in quality. Ultimately, a Mercedes is always a Mercedes, and other cars like a Pride, Samand, or even a Toyota don’t match up.
A Toyota is Japanese, Pride is Korean, Peugeot 206 is French, and all of these are within their price range and performance capabilities relative to what you pay. Now, for your building’s system, you need to decide if you want a Mercedes, which is like the premium system we discussed, or if you prefer something like a Pride, or a mid-range option. This difference depends on the price you are willing to pay.
